Dillard pulls away late to edge Paul Quinn women, 75-65
DALLAS Dillard used balanced scoring and a decisive fourth quarter to hold off Paul Quinn, 75-65, on Thursday night at the Health & Wellness Center.
Paul Quinn (11-4, 6-1) stayed within striking distance most of the evening, but Dillard (6-10, 3-4) closed on a 21-11 run in the final period to secure the road win.
Zaire Brown led the Tigers with 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting and added seven rebounds, anchoring Paul Quinn on both ends. Canai McPherson provided a spark off the perimeter, finishing with a team-high 19 points while knocking down two 3-pointers and converting 5 of 6 free throws. Tamia Dolls chipped in eight points, and Cierra Taylor contributed six points, four steals and steady on-ball defense.
Paul Quinn opened the game with energy, taking a 20-18 lead after one quarter, but Dillard answered by controlling the glass and capitalizing at the free-throw line. The Tigers regained momentum in the third quarter, outscoring Dillard 22-16 to briefly move back in front, before the visitors took command late.
Dillard was led by D'Mya Ferguson's game-high 20 points, while Davielis Berroa added 18 points and 10 rebounds. Kayla Terry was dominant inside with 14 points and a game-best 15 rebounds, helping Dillard win the rebounding battle 51-25. The visitors also went 15 of 19 from the foul line.
