Hicks’ hot hand lifts Paul Quinn past Dillard in overtime
DALLAS — Jordan Hicks delivered a flawless shooting performance and powered Paul Quinn to a 115-109 overtime victory over Dillard (La.) on Thursday night at the Health & Wellness Center.
Hicks came off the bench and scored a game-high 26 points, knocking down 7 of 10 shots from the field and a perfect 7 of 10 from 3-point range, while adding five free throws. His shot-making ignited a decisive overtime surge as Paul Quinn outscored Dillard 14-8 in the extra session.
Paul Quinn (7-9, 3-4) built a 60-38 halftime lead behind efficient offense and timely perimeter shooting, then weathered a second-half rally by Dillard, which poured in 63 points after the break to force overtime.
Deon McLaughin added 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting for Paul Quinn, while Mekhi Johnson posted a strong all-around line with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Isaiah McCallum chipped in 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, anchoring the Tigers on the glass.
Dillard (8-9, 3-4) was led by Tyler Wiley, who scored 24 points, and Ben Fort, who finished with 20. The Bleu Devils shot 52.5% in the second half and forced overtime with late scoring, but Paul Quinn's depth and perimeter accuracy proved decisive.
Paul Quinn shot 50% from the field for the game and 48.3% from beyond the arc, turning to Hicks' sharpshooting when it mattered most to secure the home win.
