Paul Quinn Volleyball Secures 3–1 Road Victory Over Tougaloo
Tougaloo, MS — September 12, 2025 The Paul Quinn Tigers earned their third win of the season on Friday night, defeating Tougaloo College 3–1 at Owen Health and Wellness Center. After dropping a tight first set, the Tigers roared back to take three straight and close out the Bulldogs, 22–25, 25–12, 25–18, 25–12. With the victory, Paul Quinn improved to 3–8 overall, while Tougaloo remained winless at 0–6.
Strong Offensive Outing
The Tigers turned in one of their sharpest offensive performances of the season, hitting .227 as a team with 53 kills on 141 attempts. Middle hitter Makaila Piggee led the charge with 16 kills on a stellar .538 hitting percentage, while also adding three solo blocks for a match-high 20.0 points.
She was joined by Carrie Weston, who matched Piggee with 16 kills of her own and chipped in 4 digs and a block assist, finishing with 16.5 points. Jayden Jones added 10 kills at a .269 clip, giving the Tigers three double-digit attackers on the night.
Setter Spirit Phipps orchestrated the offense efficiently, dishing out 35 assists and contributing 7 digs and a block assist.
Serving and Defense Shine
Paul Quinn also applied pressure from the service line, recording 8 aces across the match. Freshman Ceyara Cox led the team with four aces, while libero Ashley Sanchez tallied two aces to go along with a team-high 25 digs.
Defensively, the Tigers outdug Tougaloo 69–60 and controlled the net with five total blocks. A'Niyah Harrison was a key presence in the back row, recording 14 digs.
Tougaloo's Effort
Despite the loss, the Bulldogs showed flashes of fight. Zoie Chambers and Cameron Gatlin paced the attack, combining for 17 kills, while setter Kaliyah Green handed out 26 assists and dug nine balls. However, Tougaloo struggled with efficiency, finishing with a .023 hitting percentage and committing 28 attack errors.
Turning Point
After dropping the opening frame 25–22, Paul Quinn dominated the second set, hitting .333 while holding Tougaloo to a negative hitting percentage (-.036). From there, the Tigers controlled the tempo, winning the final two sets comfortably to secure the road win.
