Paul Quinn Volleyball Rolls Past SUNO in Home Conference Opener
DALLAS, Texas, September 19, 2025 Paul Quinn College opened its conference slate in style on Friday night, defeating Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) 3–1 (25–18, 21–25, 25–7, 25–9) in front of 150 fans at the Tiger Gym in Dallas. The win pushes the Tigers to 6–8 overall and 1–0 in league play, while SUNO falls to 1–9, 0–2.
After splitting the first two sets, Paul Quinn completely dominated the third and fourth frames, hitting .381 and .500, respectively, while holding the Knights to negative hitting percentages. The Tigers' balanced attack and stout defense turned the match into a statement victory.
Carrie Weston powered the offense with a match-high 17 kills on an efficient .394 hitting percentage, adding two block assists for 18 points. Jayden Jones chipped in 10 kills, while Jakayla Morrow added six kills and four block assists to anchor the front line.
Freshman Jamya Fields provided a spark off the bench with five kills on .444 hitting, while JaQuelle Felton contributed six kills and a team-best five blocks (one solo, four assists).
The Tigers' setters and servers also played a key role. Spirit Phipps tallied 37 assists and nine digs, running an efficient offense that produced a .246 team hitting percentage. From the service line, Paul Quinn collected nine aces, led by Ceyara Cox (3), A'Niyah Harrison (2), and Ashley Sanchez (2). Sanchez also patrolled the back row with a team-high 20 digs, while Harrison added 12.
SUNO was led by Malaysia Hudson and Taszia Adkinson, who each tallied nine kills. Adkinson also dished out 20 assists and picked up six digs. However, the Knights struggled with consistency, committing 24 attack errors and nine reception errors across the four sets.
Paul Quinn's defense proved the difference, totaling 72 digs and 14 blocks (two solo, 12 assists) while holding SUNO to a .044 team hitting percentage.
